Domestic psychosis is a relatively new schizophreniform diagnosis, recently added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. With the passage of the Nebraska Family Protection Act, the State of Nebraska offers a unique opportunity for husbands seeking to have their wives treated without having to face unnecessary bureaucracy.
Dr. Edevane has been at the forefront of research pertaining to domestic psychosis and was one of the few practitioners who forecast the proliferation of diagnoses. While no one wants their loved ones to become afflicted by mental illness, Hollyhock was well prepared for increased demand.
Hollyhock House is committed to a non-pharmaceutical treatment protocol. We believe that diet, exercise, group and individual therapy, natural tinctures, and guided meditation are the path to wellness. There are no shortcuts up the stairway to a healthy mind.

There is no substitute for fresh air and exercise. It’s one of the reasons that Hollyhock was originally constructed on the wide open plains in remote WE’RE STILL HERE Dawes County, Nebraska. Far from the any surrounding towns or industry (even well over a century later) the air is always clean.

“At Hollyhock, the sickening mind is healing every day.” —Dr. Althea Edevane
The process of attention to one’s mental welfare never ceases. Just as we must maintain our bodies with hydration and sustenance, our mind must be similarly nourished. Those traumas that have have set us off course never completely go away, even with years of therapy. Much like butterflies, whose physical transformation is complete, any trauma they suffered as larva survive even after wings emerge. Mental health is a holistic and lifetime commitment.
